At The Water's Edge

Religion

Some will say that religion is a load of baloney for people that need something to believe in and so dismiss them all. I can understand that view but I think I disagree. For me it seems religions are different ways of climbing the same mountain. What is at the top of that mountain? Who knows. I guess some call it God, others call it something else. That God could mean different things to different people. For me, I think it feels like a connection to "something".

I had already thought the above for sometime before I discovered that the mythologist Joseph Campbell's studies had concluded that many of the different myths, stories and religions from around the world contain similar elements. Their differences caused to a certain extent by their different geographical environments and cultures.

It seems to me that if you follow a religion you're not any less likely to make a grave mistake than if you don't. I guess it offers safety in numbers and therein lies the danger of saying one gang is better and more powerful than another. Personally I prefer to examine my own life, look for clues and find my own way up that mountain. It's just my way and doesn't have to be anybody else's.

Of course it could be a load of baloney too.
