Okay, last week someone called Oily Urchin became a fan on Facebook. The name rang a bell when I first saw it l but I couldn't place it but then later I realised it is the artist that painted the above painting which I raved about last year.
I first saw the painting as I passed a cafe on the Oxford Road (126?) in Reading one morning last autumn and it just immediately struck me. I thought I'd actually mentioned it here in my blog already but checking I think I must have only mentioned it directly on Twitter and Facebook. To dispell any confusion, no way do I condone the riots but I do think the causes are complicated. What I liked about the painting is that it is showing one youth trying to prevent another smashing a window. For me the message of the painting is important: not all of our younger members of society are bad.
