Special Screening of Finding Joe: 18th May, Rising Sun Arts Centre, Reading
It was always going to be interesting to see how many people would turn up to last night's special screening of Finding Joe. I think my greatest fear was that there were going to be so many people that I we wouldn't be able to fit them all in to what is a relatively small screening room. I needn't have worried as there was only myself, Luke Paulo (who was showing support for a fellow musician - thanks mate, it was much appreciated) and the "projectionist" watching.
If I was a supreme spin doctor I could suggest that at least I get more people come along to see me sing and play! However, without wanting to get too heavy about it, although there could be many practical factors for the poor attendance last night I had thought it might have intrigued at least a few more. It does make me question why have I found the film meaningful and others haven't. Am I that much out of step with everyone and everything? Or worse, have I just got my head in the clouds and I'm not grounded in reality?
I guess the latter could be true. And yet for me the film and what I understand of Joseph Campbell's work seems to make sense to me. It seems to have put my life into some sort of context, and as I continue along this path I find more supporting evidence for the vague ideas I had at the outset, particularly with respect to my desire to write and actually my "creative" experiences too. Although it's disconcerting to be in a minority, with all the positive things happening, I feel I'd be mad to give up on this just yet.
