"A Plethora of Exceptional Talent"
Last night there was a plethora of exceptional talent.. In particular I enjoyed Will Dixon (check out his YouTube page), Ben Hundy and Luke Paulo's performances. I was also pleased to be able to twist the arms of my friends Warren and Gaz from The Crown in Theale (who were just on a night out) to do a couple of impromptu songs. I think they enjoyed themselves and hopefully will be back.
I know you'll think I'm sweet on her but once again I've got to say Paula Curtis was the stand out for me. Why? I was thinking about that and I've come to the conclusion that it's because the language she uses is so clear that I understand what the songs are about. Also the subject matter usually has a bit of depth, based in reality and truth. For example, her first song last night was about The Falklands War in '82 and how we shouldn't really be celebrating the death of anyone, for as she says they could be somebody's father or son. She also has the knack of making the songs personal by relating the subject matter to her own life. I do think she's a very talented songwriter.
As for me, I feel perhaps I'm not connecting with the audience as much as I should at the moment. My performances feel a little perfunctory although I seem to get a decent applause which I'll never complain about.
