GIGS 2012

Thursday 25th October 2012

The Hook And Tackle, Reading (RG1 2ND)

White Bear Promotions presents:

ANDREW SHEARER, EMILY CHARLOTTE HAYNES, DE LA RUE

"Ashes to Ashes"

"Another evening of fine acoustic performances as 3 of the finest local singer/songwriters come to perform and plug their material at The Hook & Tackle, Reading." Jason Riordan, White Bear Promotions.

With me doing a bit of soul searching and writing recently I wasn't sure I was really "match fit" to do a gig but Jason Riordan is such a nice guy you want to help him out if he's in difficulty. As it happens I think my performance was okay, nothing startling but a good experience with trying a few things out. Those who know me well will understand why perhaps David Bowie's Ashes to Ashes has been a soundtrack to my life over the past week or so and it was good to get the first performance of that out of the way.

It was very nice to see De La Rue again. There's a very nice vibe about these people, a sort of "joie de vivre" and I like them very much. I was also very interested by Emily Charlotte Haynes too, whom I'd seen do a showcase at Deja Vu in her group Lo Quay. She was also accompanied tonight but I've got to say that out of all of her performances that I've seen, it was when she was by herself that I thought she shined best. I find that very interesting: more doesn't necessarily mean better.

Thanks to my two musical colleagues and friends Raji Kulatilake and Luke Paulo who came to see me play; as always it's much appreciated particularly at such short notice.
