Another evening run by Rob Sowden. I've got to say I'm greatly impressed by his support, helpfulness and encouragement to the less experienced acts.
I played It's Just Not There, Silent Valley, Get Up! They didn't feel like great performances although the audience were generous in their appreciation. Thanks, if you were there.
One of the things that has struck me last night is a new respect for the performers on Jools Holland type shows: you don't really have an opportunity to warm up and you have to settle into your performance straight away.
The evening was made more interesting for me by another ex-pupil coming out of the woodwork; he was in the audience with his wife. People change so much between 12 and 30 that it's hard sometimes to remember exactly what they were like 15 years ago but I seem to remember this guy was quite quiet as a lad, never caused any trouble, perhaps sat in the background a bit. Last night he came up to me and introduced himself full of confidence and told me about his life, his family etc. It was really very cool.
