Happy Christmas!

Hi,

Just a quick note to wish you all a happy festive period and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2015.

2014 has been a relatively quiet year for me on the performing front but no less important for that. One particularly gratifying aspect has been the writing and performing of songs within the space of six months rather than twenty years, so that's kind of a bit of an improvement for me. Two of those songs I performed at my Birthday Gig on 11th December and it feels they're bedding down now. You can see those performaces here: Bogus; Dark Star. And indeed that whole evening was a great success largely due to Jonas and Jane, whom every time I see them remind me more and more of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings (my writing of Silent Valley was influenced greatly by Welch / Rawling's 15 mins I Dreamed a Highway); and the ever, indispensible and engaging Paula Curtis. I said it on the night and I've said it elsewhere, Paula is one of the those local acts that has the rare ability to connect with an audience (I haven't seen her fail yet). Many have said to me how both acts were outstanding on the night and I thank Katherine, Charlie and Paula for their help in making the night the success that it was.

In spite of not many public performances much has been happening behind the scenes. I'm like one of those swans on the river, looking cool (okay, perhaps not) on the surface but paddling like mad underneath. Whether you'll become aware of any of the results of that paddling, time will tell, suffice it to say, it's made life interesting whatever happens.

It's always pleasing to see you at my gigs. There's a bit of history with some of you and it allows me to perhaps attempt to make the night a little more interesting than it might otherwise have been. There are also times when I expect some of you turn up and you haven't and my plans have gone out the window! I will eventually learn the lessons from that.

If you celebrate Christmas then Happy Christmas to you. If you don't then I hope you enjoy this festive period anyway and I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2015. In the words of Dave Allen, may your god go with you.

With Best Wishes,

Andrew
