Bohemian Night open-mic hosted by Rob Sowden

" A Good Start At Least"

It had been a been a while since I'd been to Bohemian Night, indeed attended any open-mic even and so I was quite looking forward to this evening, not least because I was going to debut my new guitar.

As always, the evening was full of great performers, in particular I remember Richard Mitchell's profoundly honest songs and Helen Cuthbertson-Reid's stunning voice. However for me the most notable moment of the night was one of Andrew Pearce's songs. Andrew is less of an "in your face" performer than the previously mentioned two acts (and that's not a criticism of any of the acts) and so it was all the more startling that one of his songs cut through to me even though someone was talking to me at the time. I can't even remember what the phrase was even but for me it just seemed to cut through, almost as if some alchemy was involved, some special key or formula. I find that very interesting. I guess it's where my ideas are leading currently with respect to art, that somehow it provides some sort of connection with the transcendent, or at least the art that I'm interested in is at the moment.

Anyway, enough of that, what about my new guitar? Well, you can never tell how relationships are going to go but she's a pretty thing, lovely to hold and I like the sound she makes when I play her. I reckon that's a good start at least.
